I was born in Australia with Irish, Ålandian and Scottish heritage. After school and teachers' college, I taught for several years before moving to Sweden. The idea was to catch up with relatives on Åland (which I did), but then I met the man who was to become my husband, and we eventually married and had a family. During the two decades I lived in Sweden, I taught English part‐time, completed an Arts degree and had several art exhibitions.

When we relocated to Australia (on the Central Coast of NSW), I worked for the Swedish Consulate‐General in Sydney while completing a Fine Arts degree at the University of Newcastle. During this time, I exhibited at a number of different galleries and have continued to do so. Soon after returning to Australia, I fell madly in love with long‐distance hiking. In 2012, I published The Space in Between, which has since been followed by a further five books.
