Born in Australia with Irish, Ålandian and Scottish heritage, I attended Balmain teachers' college in Sydney before teaching for several years. I then moved to Sweden where I met the man who was to become my husband. We eventually married and had a family. During the two decades I lived in Sweden, I taught English, completed an Arts degree and had several art exhibitions.

After relocating to Australia (the Central Coast of NSW), I worked for the Swedish Consulate‐General in Sydney while completing a Fine Arts degree at the University of Newcastle. During this time, I exhibited at several different galleries and have continued to do so. Soon after returning to Australia, I discovered long‐distance hiking, and in 2012, I published The Space in Between, which has since been followed by a further five books.
