Most people have heard of the<\/span><\/span><\/span>type of crime fiction<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>known as Scandinavian crime fiction or Nordic noir, and of which \u00c5sa Larsson’s writing (see last post) is an example<\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

In other words, it combines<\/span><\/span>realism <\/span><\/span><\/span>with <\/span><\/span><\/span>a dark, often quite complex, mood. The success of the genre has been attributed to a direct, precise, uncluttered writing style<\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/span>It is usually well-written <\/span><\/span><\/span>The law-enforcers are generally ordinary human beings with their own problems<\/span><\/span><\/span>and cares<\/span><\/span><\/span>; <\/span><\/span><\/span>none of them are in any way heroic – at least not on the surface. Some critics feel that the social equality and liberalism of Scandinavia hides dark secrets and even hatreds which, in turn, are often the motivating forces behind this particular genre.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
