Inspiration for this painting in five panels came from colour changes in the rocks by the sea, which is brought about by the changing tides.

On the central coast of eastern Australia, beaches and headlands and rocky outcrops mark a line between land and water, borrowing colours from both in an effort to diffuse that which may have been thought to be obvious.
